We completely revised, created and implemented their design anew – offline and online
Rudolf Augstein, founder and editor-in-chief for several decades of the news magazine Der Spiegel, was considered one of the most remarkable journalists in Germany. In the 1960s, he decided to set up a foundation to help people in illness or need, to support the arts and to enable journalistic work.
We did not hesitate when the Rudolf Augstein Foundation approached us. Our roots are in journalism and we always aim to make a contribution to society. The Rudolf Augstein Foundation is a client who matches us well – and for whom we were able to produce everything by ourselves.
A new Design for the Web and Beyond
The Rudolf Augstein Foundation first came to us with the request for a new website. However, together we realized that a new corporate design should be done first, which then can inspire the appearance of the site. We also designed a special microsite for one of their events and created its key visual. To successfully operate this completely newly built infrastructure, we wrote a manual and made it available to the employees of the Rudolf Augstein Foundation.
The website of the Rudolf Augstein Foundation should have a clear, well-structured, friendly, professional and modern, creative appearance.
Good readability was a must. Also, the editors should be able to adjust content on the site without special graphic or development skills. And, of course, the website had to be displayed well on desktops, tablets and mobile devices.
360 Degree Support for all Areas
At the beginning we defined three target groups and set up a leading question for them, that guided the content and design.
First and foremost, we wanted to provide information for potential applicants about funding opportunities in the fields of art, journalism and social affairs. But the general public should also be able to get to know Rudolf Augstein as a person, his commitment to civil society and his involvement in these areas. The site should introduce the foundation and its members, show the current projects and perhaps be able to win new partners and supporters.
Timeless Web Design
The Internet is constantly progressing – even the open browser Firefox already has more than 60 versions, each new iteration based on its predecessor. To ensure that the Rudolf Augstein Foundation’s website can be enjoyed in the new design in the future, we decided to utilize WordPress. Especially for the employees, it allows an easy use and compatibility with almost all third-party providers. And to make it as easy as possible for non-IT professionals to use, we also created a visual guide to complement the design, that makes working on the site by yourself more easy.
